Berneray Week 2005
The following is the listing of events for the 2005 Berneray week. All events took place on the island of Berneray. 2pm, Saturday 16th July: It's a knockoutFun and games on the Machair. A CHANGE OF CLOTHES IS ESSENTIAL IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING. Adult teams contain 6 adults and 2 children under the age of 12. Children teams consist of 6 children and 2 adults over 18. Either come along as part of a team, or come on your own as teams will be made up on the day. Free soup and roll for all competitors. Barbecue and refreshments available.
Adults £2, children £1 2pm, Monday 18th July: DuathlonCycling and running; bring your own bike. Four different age groups from 5 to adults. Prizes in each category. Gather at Berneray community hall. Entry fee: £2 10pm, Monday 18th July: Traditional ceilidh danceFergie Macdonald hosts this event. Berneray community hall. Adults £6, children (over 12) £3 2pm, Tuesday 19th July: Berneray sports dayA fun day for all the family. On Berneray Machair by the Community Hall. 5 a side football, childrens fun run and all the usual races. Plus, the resurrection of the mini marathon (approx. 4.5 miles). Barbecue and refreshments available. Adults £2, children £1 1.30pm, Wednesday 20th July: Sandcastle competitionOpen to all ages. Bring a bucket, spade and your ideas. Gather at Berneray community hall. Prizes for different age groups. Refreshments available. Free entry. 8pm, Wednesday 20th July: Beach barbecue and discoWest beach (weather permitting); Berneray community hall if the weather is bad. Games for children. All food is home cooked, and meat is supplied by Lawrences Butchers & General Stores, Lochboisdale:
This event finishes around midnight. 10am to 5.30pm, Thursday 21st July: Oral traditions of BernerayFor the first time since Berneray week started in 1982, a whole day will be devoted to the oral traditions of the island of Berneray. The aim being to provide a cultural and historical perspective on a unique island community. This event takes place in Berneray community hall.
8pm, Thursday 21st July: CeilidhMusic, poetry and song, in Berneray Community Hall. Margaret Stewart is the main visiting artiste, supported by local singers and musicians. Adults £4, concessions £2 2pm, Friday 22nd July: Treasure huntsOpen to ages 3 to 14 years. Lots of running and thinking for the older ones. Gather at Berneray community hall. Entry fee £2 7.30pm, Friday 22nd July: Traditional concertArtists include Iain Joseph and friends, Iain Mackay, Kate Maclean, Emma MacInnes and more. MC Mary Bremner; concert takes place in Berneray community hall.
