Self-Catering: Lamraig Thatched Cottage

Is it a holiday, residency or retreat you are seeking? … You can decide!

For season 2023, we will be renting Lamraig thatched cottage by the calendar month. Our aspiration is for you to properly slow down and relax, enjoy our island community, culture and natural surroundings.

Explore our soft sandy beaches, breathe the fresh ocean air, stroll by clear turquoise sea, then come home to a bit of Hebridean heritage and relax by the wood burning stove.

The cottage also has a separate office and utility workspace with broadband where, if necessary, you could get some work done, use the inspiration of our island environment to be creative or hide yourself away to focus on developing a new project.

Lamraig is a traditional marram thatched cottage, within a group of historic listed buildings on the Isle of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides. Originally built some 200 years ago, the cottage sits on the shore just two minutes from a beautiful white sandy beach overlooking the Sound of Harris. The cottage has been restored, combining traditional and eco building principles with all the modern conveniences to offer a unique and enchanting Hebridean island holiday.

Its small exterior defies an amply spacious interior, which is tastefully furnished with all the comforts required for a relaxing island holiday or residency. Perfect for couples looking for a bit of peace and quiet away or individuals seeking some solace and a creative space. It can also accommodate families or groups of up to four.

The cottage is a wonderful base for walks on the beach, learning more about Hebridean culture, enjoying local seafood, water sports, wildlife and island hospitality. To truly understand the beauty of our island, the slower pace of life and Hebridean wilderness – you need to come and experience it for yourself.
